How do I make an appointment?

The simplest and quickest way is to book your appointment through our online booking portal. Alternatively, you can call us on 03 8652 9499 or email us through our contact form. If you leave a voicemail, we will return your call as soon as possible.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No, a referral isn’t necessary. However, you can receive a Medicare rebate for your sessions if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP.

Can I get a Medicare rebate for individual sessions?

Yes, if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP, you are eligible for a Medicare rebate. From 1 July 2024, the rebate is $96.65 per session.

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)?

To obtain an MHTP, you need to be assessed by a GP. We recommend booking a Mental Health Appointment, as this allows more time with your GP. If eligible, your GP will prepare an MHTP and can refer you to Equal Psychology. For more information about the Better Access Initiative click here

What is a Psychologist?

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Psychologists provide therapy for mental health issues through talking therapies. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and focus on the medical treatment of mental disorders, including diagnosing and treating severe mental illnesses.

Are psychologists registered with a Regulatory agency?

Yes, all psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), ensuring they meet strict professional and ethical standards.

Can I choose or change my psychologist?

Yes, you have the freedom to choose. If you feel a change is needed, our administrative team can assist with the transition to another psychologist. We encourage open communication with your current psychologist before making any changes.

Are appointments confidential?

Yes, all sessions are private and confidential. Your psychologist will explain the exceptions to confidentiality during your first session, such as instances where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

Once my file is closed, can I come back at another point in time?
