• Session (between 9am and 5pm): $240
• After-hours surcharge (sessions from 5pm and Saturdays): plus $20
• Cancellation and no-show (within 24 hours, or missed): full fee

A Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP gives you a Medicare rebate of $101.55 per therapy session as of July 2026, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. With the rebate, a standard $240 session leaves you about $138.45 out of pocket.

ADHD assessment

A structured assessment with Matthew Hallam, for adults 18 and over. We call this an assessment because that is the term most people know it by. We prefer to think of it as identification. Nothing here is wrong with you, and nothing is uncovered that was not already part of how your mind works. There is no Medicare rebate for ADHD assessments. The fees below are the full cost.

• Assessment: $950. One fee, everything included, with no separate charge for the report. Two sessions plus pre-work you complete beforehand. You receive your written report, a letter for your GP, and a report written for a psychiatrist.
• Cancellation and no-show (within 24 hours, or missed): $250

If you choose to see a psychiatrist

Following your ADHD assessment, you may choose to see Dr Luisa Fernandez for an independent psychiatric assessment, including consideration of treatment options and medication where appropriate.

Your GP can refer you directly to Dr Fernandez. Following her assessment, she will discuss the most appropriate treatment and follow-up with you. Depending on your individual circumstances, this may include ongoing psychiatric care or recommendations for ongoing management with your GP.

What the assessment involves: up to two hours with Equal Psychology face to face, up to two hours of our work behind the scenes including scoring and report preparation, and, if you choose to see Dr Fernandez, a separate psychiatric consultation of usually 50 minutes. Up to five hours spent on your assessment in total.

Dr Fernandez, out of pocket: $483 to $531. Depending on how you choose to work with Dr Fernandez, her fee after the Medicare rebate falls in this range. This is her fee, not ours, and it is separate from the $950 Equal Psychology assessment. The figures are current at the time of writing and assume you are eligible for Medicare. Current appointment, referral and fee information is available directly through her practice.

The purpose of the collaboration is to provide Dr Fernandez with a detailed psychological assessment and report to inform her subsequent assessment, while preserving independent clinical decision-making at each stage.

Seeing Dr Fernandez is entirely optional. You may also take your assessment report to another psychiatrist of your choice. Dr Fernandez's psychiatric assessment is a separate service and is billed independently from Equal Psychology. She sets her own fees.

• Payment: Mastercard, Visa, or debit. Electronic payments only.
• Third-party payers: TAC, WorkCover, and Support at Home.
• Bulk billing: not available.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No, you don't need a referral to book a session. But if you want to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP or psychiatrist.

Can I use private health insurance for psychology sessions?

Many private health insurers offer rebates for psychology services under Extras cover. Coverage varies, so it's best to check with your provider to see what's included in your plan. You can't claim a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the same session.

Are sessions covered by WorkCover or TAC?

Yes, we provide psychology services for WorkCover, TAC, and Support at Home clients. You'll need an approved claim number before booking, and sessions must be pre-approved. If you're unsure how this works, feel free to reach out.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations within 24 hours are charged the full session fee, and missed appointments (no-shows) are also charged the full fee. Medicare and private health insurance don't cover missed appointments.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes. We offer video sessions, which are eligible for Medicare rebates if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Some private health insurers also cover telehealth, so check with your provider. See our online sessions page for how it works.

Do I need to see a psychiatrist as well?

You do not have to. The assessment stands on its own, and many people take the report to their GP and go no further. If you choose to, you can see Dr Luisa Fernandez for an independent psychiatric assessment. Her fee after the Medicare rebate falls between $483 and $531, depending on how you choose to work with her. That is separate from the Equal Psychology assessment fee, and she bills you directly. You are also welcome to take your report to another psychiatrist of your choice.
