ADHD Assessment

What is an ADHD Assessment?

In our comprehensive adult ADHD assessment, we aim to gain a detailed understanding of your symptoms, behaviours, and the impact of ADHD on your daily life. This process goes beyond diagnosis—it is about uncovering the full picture to guide effective treatment and support.

We believe in a holistic, client-centred approach. By thoroughly exploring your experiences, we ensure your diagnosis and treatment plan are tailored to your unique situation. Our goal is to equip you with the understanding and tools needed to manage ADHD effectively.

What Can I Expect?

Initial Assessment:

You will receive a pre-assessment questionnaire in your confirmation email. This thorough assessment is aligned to the diagnostic criteria and helps your psychologist determine what to cover in your session together.

Personalised Feedback:

Once your psychologist has finalised their assessment you will have a feedback session, receive a summary letter, and a letter for your GP and Psychiatrist.

Guidance and Next Steps:

We collaborate with you to create a personalised treatment plan, which may include therapy, coaching, or exploring medication with a psychiatrist.

Complete all pre-assessment
forms thoroughly

Before your assessment, you’ll receive forms and questionnaires that gather detailed information about your symptoms and history. Ensure you take your time and answer all questions honestly, as these will provide a foundation for the assessment.

Gather background information
and documentation

It’s helpful to collect any relevant reports, such as past assessments, medical records, or school reports, that give a fuller picture of your experiences. These documents help paint a clearer picture of your symptoms over time.

Ask a family member or
close friend for Input

ADHD starts in childhood, and those close to you might have valuable insights into your past behaviours and experiences. Involving a parent, sibling, or partner who knows you well can add depth to the assessment.

Identify the Key
Challenges You Experience

Reflect on specific issues that affect your daily life, whether it’s managing time, staying organised, or regulating emotions. Having a clear idea of your main struggles will guide the discussion during your assessment.

Be honest and specific
about your experiences

When answering questions or describing symptoms, be as truthful as possible without embellishing or minimising. Your honesty will ensure that the psychologist gains an accurate understanding of how ADHD impacts your life.

Take your time
with questionnaires

ADHD assessments may include detailed questionnaires, so make sure you complete them thoughtfully. Rushing through the process can result in missed details, so give yourself time to answer accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ADHD Assessment?

An assessment is a comprehensive evaluation process that explores symptoms like inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. It involves completing questionnaires, participating in interviews, and reviewing your personal, educational, and medical history to determine if you meet diagnostic criteria.

How does an ADHD assessment differ from an ADHD screening?

While an ADHD screening is a preliminary step to identify potential symptoms, an ADHD assessment is a more detailed and in-depth evaluation. The assessment provides a fuller picture of your experiences over time and aims to provide an accurate diagnosis.

Who should consider undergoing an ADHD assessment?

Anyone experiencing significant difficulties with focus, impulsiveness, or hyperactivity that severely affect their work, relationships, or daily routines should consider an assessment. It is also recommended if these symptoms have persisted since childhood and impact multiple areas of life.

Can an ADHD assessment diagnose other conditions?

Yes, an assessment often explores other potential mental health conditions that may co-occur with ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, or learning difficulties. A comprehensive assessment aims to provide a complete understanding of all factors impacting your mental health and behaviour.

How long does an ADHD assessment take?

An assessment is held over two sessions, typically lasting between 50 and 60 minutes each. Expect to spend at least 2 hours completing questionnaires outside of these appointment. The duration depends on the complexity of symptoms and the amount of information needed for an accurate diagnosis.

What do I need to bring to my ADHD assessment?

It’s helpful to bring any relevant documents, such as school reports, previous assessment results, and medical history. Additionally, a family member or loved one who can provide insights into your behaviours and experiences can be valuable to the assessment process.

Is an ADHD assessment available online or only in person?

Assessments are available both online and in person, allowing flexibility based on your preference and schedule. Online assessments are conducted through secure video platforms, ensuring the same level of care as in-person evaluations.

What happens after an ADHD assessment?

After the assessment, your psychologist will review all gathered information and discuss the results with you. If ADHD is diagnosed, you’ll receive guidance on next steps, which may include treatment options, coping strategies, or referrals for additional support.

How do I book an Assessment?

You can book an assessment through our booking portal or by contacting us directly.

How much does an ADHD Assessment cost?
