Complete Intake Assessment Form

Complete intake assessment form:

After booking your Breathing Retraining Program, you will receive an email with a link to an intake form and preliminary assessment. Please set aside 30 minutes to complete this information and ensure it is submitted at least 48 hours before your first session

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wear Comfortable Clothing

To get the most out of your breathing retraining session, wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move and breathe freely. Tight clothing can restrict your ability to fully engage in the exercises.

Reflect on Your Breathing Patterns

Use your Reflective Journal to consider how you currently breathe throughout the day. Noticing whether you breathe through your nose or mouth or if you take shallow breaths can provide useful insight for your retraining session.

Stay Open to New Techniques

Stay Open to New Techniques:

Breathing retraining might introduce new exercises or approaches that feel different at first. Be open to experimenting with different techniques and embracing changes to your breathing habits.

Be Ready to Ask Questions

Be Ready to Ask Questions:

If you are unsure about any exercises or techniques during the session, feel free to ask your instructor for clarification. Understanding the purpose and proper technique of each exercise will help you maximise the benefits of retraining.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is breathing retraining?

Breathing retraining is a practice that focuses on improving your breathing patterns for better physical and mental health. It involves learning techniques to improve lung function, often targeting dysfunctional or inefficient breathing habits that may contribute to physical and mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress, or respiratory problems.

Who can benefit from breathing retraining?

Breathing retraining can benefit anyone who experiences stress, anxiety, panic attacks, sleep issues, or respiratory conditions like asthma. It’s also useful for athletes or individuals looking to improve their overall breathing efficiency and quality of life.

How does breathing retraining differ from regular breathing exercises?

While regular breathing exercises often focus on relaxation, breathing retraining specifically targets changing your breathing habits and patterns. The aim is to develop more efficient breathing techniques that promote an optimal mix of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your airways and improve overall wellbeing.

What are the benefits of breathing retraining?

It can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and relaxation, enhance athletic performance, and support better sleep. For those with respiratory conditions, it can also improve lung capacity and overall respiratory health.

Can breathing retraining help with anxiety?

Yes, research shows that breathing retraining can effectively reduce symptoms of anxiety. By improving respiratory patterns, individuals experience less hyperventilation, increased relaxation, and better emotional regulation during stressful situations.

What happens during a breathing retraining session?

During a session, you’ll learn various breathing techniques designed to improve how you breathe in different situations—such as when you’re at rest, during exercise, or feeling stressed. A certified breathing instructor will guide you through exercises, provide feedback on your breathing patterns, and offer personalised strategies to practice at home.

How long does it take to see results from breathing retraining?

The program runs over 4 consecutive weekly sessions. The time it takes to see results can vary based on individual needs and consistency of practice. Some individuals notice improvements in their stress levels and breathing within a few sessions, while others may require several weeks to fully retrain their breathing habits.

Do I need any special equipment for breathing retraining?

No special equipment is required. However, your certified breathing instructor may recommend props like a time watch, a yoga mat, a pillow, or a blanket to enhance comfort during exercises at home. These items can help support correct posture and relaxation while you practice new techniques.

How often should I practice breathing retraining exercises?

It’s recommended to practice breathing exercises daily, especially if you’re looking to change long-term habits. Even setting aside 5-10 minutes a day for breathing retraining can help reinforce new patterns and maximise the benefits of each session. Your certified breathing instructor will guide you on this.

Is breathing retraining suitable for all ages?

Yes. The techniques can be adapted to meet the needs of adults, and older-adults, making it a flexible approach for those looking to improve their breathing and wellbeing.

How do I book an appointment?
